Northern successes at Merseyside Championship. (Jan.2007)
Northern were well represented at the Merseyside Squash Championship Tournament,
and achieved success at the competition, which was hosted this year by Liverpool Cricket Club, Aigburth, on 20th and 21st January.
Winner of the over 55 age group was our Club Coach, Alan Hendry (left),
who defeated the evergreen Merseyside Squash Chairman and Northern Club member for over 50 years, Andrew Beeston (right).
The final plate section of this competition was contested between Brian Bennett (left) and Andy Wilson (right) who ran out the winner.
The semi final of the Ladies draw saw an exciting game between blue nose Amy Barnes,
and Alan Hendry's assistant coach at the Club, Heather Tweedle.
Heather (right) was the stronger and progressed to the final, unfortunately finishing runner up.
Matthew Davies (left) entered the main competition this year to get a feel of the opposition at senior level.
Although he went out in the first round of the main competition in a close five setter to the Isle of Man number 1,
he progressed to the final of, and won, the Merseyside Open Plate.
Other mention should also be made of David Cain and Steve Noakes who were unfortunate to meet, and be knocked out by, eventual winners.

Party Goers found some snappy outfits in the back of the wardrobe to go with the mood of the evening.

Jack Riley was the star turn for Northern.
After coming up against the eventual winner in the first round of the main under 19 competition,

His efforts were rewarded by a call up into the Merseyside County Under 19 squad.
Jack is pictured receiving his trophy from Andrew Beeston.

Matthew Davies reached the under 17 semi final, before he too succumbed to the eventual winner,
and then won the 3rd / 4th place playoff comfortably.
Jason Cunningham finished 4th in the under 19 main competition.
Kim Davies unfortunately lost her opportunity to compete in the final of
the under 13 girls when she suffered a nasty injury to her hand whilst
