In a match fit to grace any final he took on defending champion Peter Stanton to treat a packed gallery
to a feast of squash. Stanton took the first game with relative ease, only for the young pretender to equal matters.
Both players hit top form, playing long energy-sapping rallies, before the challenger claimed the title in a close
fifth set.

Junior Squash Section booming. (Aug.2003)
The Northern Junior Squash Section is rapidly becoming one of the premier outfits in the Merseyside area. It currently comprises upwards of 70 members of all ages up to 18 years.
The success of the section is owed principally to the leadership and drive of our Professional Coach Alan Hendry. Within the Club he can draw upon the experience of four level two and four level one England Squash Coaches.
All standards are catered for, from beginners through to the more accomplished players. Each individual can be educated from the rudiments of the game through to match play standards.
The success of the Junior Squash Section can be measured against the standards and levels achieved by individuals themselves and our teams collectively. Within the Club we can boast of having five boys and four girls representing Merseyside County at Under 13 & under 15.
To underline the ability of these youngsters, three of our girls and five of our boys have been fed into and have been selected to play for the senior teams. This all bodes well for the future of the club in general.
The children are very proud to represent their county and do so bringing great credit to the Northern Club.
Last season our junior 1st team competed in and won the second division of the Merseyside Under 19 league. Whilst achieving this success, not one of the boys was over 14. Having thereafter been promoted to the first division they consolidated and finished in a creditable mid-table position.
All now looks very promising for the forthcoming season as our teams mature. We are expanding on the success of the children and this season shall be entering an additional junior side in the Merseyside leagues. This will bring greater depth of experience in match play situations, therefore giving more players an opportunity to represent the club and have a goal to aim for.
The junior coaching the 2003-4 season is planned to start on Sunday 7th. September. All are welcome and we would encourage all parents to bring their children along and let them have a go.
Times as follows:-
Beginners 13.45 – 14.30
Intermediate 14.30 – 15.30
More accomplished 15.30 – 16.30.
May we take this opportunity to thank all those members who have provided sponsorship for the junior section. This support has helped enormously and is reflected in the standards that have been achieved.
