Latest Club News - Next Car Boot Sale at the Northern Club - Sunday 19th May

The Northern Club staged its second Car Boot Sale, organised by our very own entrepreneurial wizard Anthony Coyne last Sunday 12th May.

Our first two car boot sale have been well attended thanks to good weather so far.. They are proving to be a popular local attraction, while bringing in some welcome funds.

The car boot sales will be held on 14 consecutive Sundays throughout the coming spring/summer seasons with the next car boot sale this Sunday 19th May 2013.

Once again this coming Sunday, gates will open at 9.00am for sellers, and to all visitors from 10.00am. Catering and toilet facilities will be provided and the sale will finish at 2pm.

Costs are £10 per vehicle and £15 for vans. No lorries are permitted.

Latest Sports News - Half-term Cricket Camp


Our Head Coach James Cole will be organising a half-term Cricket Camp at Northern on Wednesday and Thursday 29th and 30th May, 10:00am to 3:00pm.

Welcome to the Northern Club, a thriving sport leisure and social club set in its own spacious picturesque grounds to the north of Crosby on Merseyside.

The Northern club has won a number of awards including:

  • 3rd place National Sports Club of the Year for 2006
  • Sefton's Sports Club of the Year for 2003 and 2004

The Northern Club is affiliated to Lancashire County Cricket and Hockey Associations, and participates in the Liverpool Cricket (ECB Premier) Competition and Merseyside County Squash RA and is among the very finest sport leisure and social clubs in the North West.

The Northern Club has excellent cricket playing facilities including a total of 3 pitches and 2 pavilions, all located on the same complex.

The main pitch is used for Northern first and second team matches, and for various other club fixtures, and is also used by Lancashire for second team and schoolboy representative matches.Two other cricket pitches, with their own adjacent changing facilities, are located on the same complex as the main pitch, and are used for various club fixtures.

The quality of all three pitches is excellent, and provides an appropriate playing surface for young developing talent, and for club players at all levels.

We field a total of 5 league teams playing Liverpool Competition cricket on a Saturday, and a Sunday team playing friendly fixtures. In addition, there are Sunday cup fixtures for the first, second and third teams, plus a strong junior cricket section.

The Northern Club has two top class bowling greens, providing superb Crown Green Bowling facilities that are the equal of anything around. In recent seasons, the club has also hosted premier tournaments in the national bowls calendar, attracting top bowlers from across the country.

The Men's Section has 6 teams entered in 4 leagues : Formby & District, Maghull & District, Bootle OAP, and the Aughton & District Men's Senior Citizens Bowling (over 60s) leagues. The Ladies' Section has 3 teams, 2 in the Civil Defence League and 1 in the Westhead League. However, not everyone wishes to play league bowls and friendly matches are arranged throughout the season with other Ladies clubs in the area.

The Northern Club has its own hockey Astroturf pitch, located within our club's main complex, and caters for hockey at all levels for all ages.

Northern caters for hockey at all levels for all ages. The hockey section fields eleven teams, three men's and two ladies', with the Men's First XI in Division 2 West of the the North Hockey League, and the Ladies First XI in Division 2 West of the North Women's Hockey League. In addition there are Badgers and Beavers teams, integrating under 16 and under 14 youngsters into the adult game, plus girls' under 15 and 13 teams, and boys' and girls' under 11 teams, each playing league hockey.

The Northern Club boasts 5 squash courts, providing for our various league fixtures, internal competitions, coaching sessions and social squash. Three of our courts are glass backed, and one also has seating for over a hundred spectators.

There are 6 men's squash teams and 3 ladies' squash teams playing in competitive leagues and there are around twenty mini-leagues offering regular games as well as Senior and Junior ladders.

Inside the Northern clubhouse, there are two bars, and a snooker room with two top quality tables. The club is open throughout the year, from midday at weekends, and from 5pm during the week. Excellent catering is provided.

The club lounge is available for hire to members and non-members for private functions at any time other than Saturday afternoons. Any enquiries regarding bookings should be addressed to the House Chairman via the club (click here for contact details).
