After three successive defeats, Northern 1sts were back in commanding form, overcoming Dragons Sport 1sts 5-0. John Sumner and Alex Manion ended their losing spells, while in-form Alex Cunningham and Peter Stanton joined Matt Davies in completing the double over their opponents.
The 2nds recorded their third win on the trot with a 4-1 victory over Victoria Leasure. Heather Tweedle, recently crowned National Ladies Over- 45 Champion, lead the way, playing at number one, with great support from Graham Lynch, Sue Rutherford and Mark Halliwell.
There was no joy however for the 3rds away at Liverpool Cricket. Only Jason Cunningham proved victorious as the rest of the team were outplayed. The 4th's contest with Neston 3rds produced the most exciting match of the evening as defeats for Sid Kilshaw and Pop McKenzie left the team with a mountain to climb. Darren Cochrane, enjoying a rich vein of form, reduced the deficit while Amy Barnes came from 2-1 down to level matters. Not for the first time this season, veteran Steve Noakes, though not at his best, clinched the points in the deciding rubber.
The 5ths finished their season with a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Xaverians 2nds where Ian Gazelle gained the consolation win and a much changed 6th team went down 41 to Dragons 2nds. Despite encouraging displays by debutants Julie Stenhouse, Laura Dixon and Will Kynaston, it was the experienced Brian Bennett who claimed the solitary victory.
There are no matches scheduled for 1st April, though one or two teams may take the opportunity to re-arrange matches postponed during the bad weather.

Early defeats for Mark Halliwell and Sue Rutherford gave visitors Xaverian 1sts the advantage against the 3rds and Phil Todd's demise settled the match. Kevin Morrison and Dave Cookson staged late rallies to give the score-line some respectability.
The 4ths were 4-1 winners against Village Wirral as Darren Cochrane and Peter Kilshaw established their superiority. Despite a rare defeat for Eva Kohl, Jason Cunningham and Pop McKenzie endured five-set victories to clinch the points.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT
Thursday, 11th.March, 2010

Mick Henderson, runner-up in this year's Championship, went one step better in the Veterans' Final to add his name to the role of honour in the Northern Club. He secured an impressive 3-1 success over former winner Ray McGee.
It proved a disappointing week for stand-in skipper Steve Noakes in this week's league fixtures with only one team out of six in action managing a victory. The 2nds provided the highlight winning 5-0 away to Huyton 1sts. Although Graham Lynch and Eva Kohl enjoyed relatively easy passages, Matt Davies had to overcome a 2-0 deficit while Heather Tweedle and Tom Stevenson were forced to go all the way before winning their five-setters.
The 1sts had in-form Peter Stanton to thank for their consolation win in the 4-1 defeat to Barnston, though John Sumner and Alex Manion both lost out in close five-setters while the 3rds were overwhelmed 5-0 at Central Fitness.
Despite a battling performance by Darren Cochrane at number one for the 4ths , his victory was the only success for the team at Neston 2nds. Mike Cunningham came back from 2-0 down only to lose narrowly in the 5th set as the 5th team lost 5-0 to top of the league David Lloyd 1sts and a much changed 6th team were no match for South Liverpool 1sts, losing 5-0. Peter Stanton claimed his fifth Championship title by overcoming the challenge of Mick Henderson in a highly entertaining final at the Northern Club. The challenger took an early lead and seemed in to be in command until the defending champion took control to finish strongly in the 3-1 win. In the Plate Final, Mark Griffiths took the prize with a 3-2 victory over Phil Todd.
On the League front, both finalists enjoyed success for the 1st team with Peter winning a close five-setter and Mick having a comfortable 3-0 win. However, defeats for Chris Bettison, Alex Cunnningham and John Sumner saw the hosts Saints 1sts take the points.
The 2nds were in rampant mood as Andy Chanter, Gary Powell, Matt Davies and Heather Tweedle all showed commanding form in the 4-1 defeat of Southport & Birkdale while Chips Johnson, Steve Nemo and Mark Halliwell proved the successes for the 3rds at Victoria Leisure.
The 4ths had Eva Kohl back to winning ways and Darren Cochrane achieved a hard earned 3-2 win. Sadly Phil Todd lost an early lead and the match in the deciding rubber.
The 5ths were too strong for Village Whiston as Steve Noakes, Mark Griffiths, Jason Cunnningham, Pop McKenzie and MIke Cunningham were the stars in the 5-0 romp and a second successive victory was the outcome of the 6th's match against Central Fitness. Colin Walker, Ian Gazelle and Andy Beasten sealed the 3-2 win

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT
Thursday, 25th.February, 2010

There were mixed fortunes for the Northern Club in this week's fixtures. With no games scheduled, four teams took the opportunity to re-arrange matches postponed during the recent bad weather.
The 1sts entertained New Brighton and saw Mick Henderson record his first win in his last six outings, while Carl Bettison added to last week's success. With a rare defeat for Alex Cunningham and Peter Stanton failing to overcome former Northern player Shaun Hendry, it meant that John Sumner's win was vital in the 3-2 victory.
The 3rds had Sue Rutherford and Dave Cookson in form at Huyton 1sts but they were the only winners in the 3-2 defeat, while the 4ths lost out to New Brighton 3rds. Eva Khol's long run of success came to an end and there were defeats too for Andy Duncan and Phil Todd. Jason Cunningham starred in a 3-0 win and Colin Walker added a further consolation victory in a feisty five-setter.
The 5th's game at Central Fitness ended in an impressive 4-1 success with Mike Cunnningham, Pop McKenzie, Alex Berry and Amy Barnes all hitting top form.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT

The Northern Club enjoyed a successful week in the North West Counties Squash Leagues with 4 of the 5 teams in action registering victories. The 1sts lead the way by completing the double over Cheshire Officers 1sts,though it proved to be a close affair. Mick Henderson surrended a 2-0 lead and Peter Stanton a 2-1 advantage as both top players succumbed to defeats. But Carl Bettison battled for a 3-2 success on his debut to allow team captain John Sumner and Alex Cunningham to secure the winning bonus points.
The 2nds hit top form away to Liverpool Cricket Club to record a commanding 5-0 win. Gary Powell, Graham Lynch and Heather Tweedle all enjoyed relatively easy passages, though Andy Chanter and Alex Manion were taken all the way to five-setters.
Defeats for Sue Rutherford and Chips Johnson were cancelled out by victories for Eva Kohl and Phil Todd in the 3rd's clash with Southport and Birkdale 2nds. In the deciding rubber, Mark Halliwell overcame a 2-0 deficit only to lose out in a tight fifth set.
Mike Cunningham, Sid Kilshaw and Dave Cookson were the players in form in the 4th's 3-2 success at New Brighton while a mixture of youth and experience proved the winning formula for the 5ths against Liverpool Cricket Club 4ths. Amy Barnes, Alex Berry and Andy Beasten settled the points. The 6ths had no fixture.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT

With the Squash National Championships taking place in Manchester, there were no scheduled fixtures this week in the North West Counties Leagues. Northern Club took advantage by re-arranging fixtures for the 3rd and 6th which had been postponed during the recent bad weather.
However it proved a fruitless move as both teams were unable to record victories. The 3rds lost a close match with Central Fitness, with Graham Lynch and Chips Johnson the victors in the 3-2 defeat, while the 6ths were overwhelmed by Liverpool Cricket Club. Chris Burr, Amy Barnes, Andrew Allan, Sid Kilshaw and Colin Walker all suffered 3-0 setbacks.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT
Thursday, 4th.February, 2010

Victories were hard to come by for Northern's teams this week with the only the 4ths being successful. The 1sts, following last week's impressive win over Warrington, failed to reach the heights at Liverpool Cricket Club 1sts, losing 3-2. Alex Cunningham and John Sumner were the victors but the form of Mick Henderson is showing no signs of improving.
The 2nds lost for the second successive week in a close encounter with Xaverian 1sts. Despite Matt Davies and Chips Johnson both battling to 5 set wins, Andy Chanter was unable to secure the vital rubber and the visitors took the points.
Liverpool University 1sts proved too strong for the 3rds, as Graham Lynch earned the solitary consolation win, but the 4ths were undoubtedly the team of the night with a resounding 5-0 success over West Kirby 1sts. Eva Kohl recorded her 6th win on the trot and was ably supported by Jason Cunningham, Dave Cookson, Pop McKenzie and Mark Griffith.
Xaverian 4ths had the better of the 5ths for whom veterans Steve Noakes and Mike Cunningham were back to winning ways, while the 6ths were unlucky to lose a close affair with Xaverian 3rds. After Andrew Allan and Dave Draper had both gained hard-fought victories in five-setters, Tricia Byrne , Amy Barnes and Chris Bare all tried unsuccessfully to clinch the match.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT
Thursday, 28th.January, 2010

Having lost heavily at Warrington earlier in the season, Northern 1sts made amends with an impressive 4-1 success on home ground. The club's number one, Peter Stanton, was back to his best for his first win in the last seven outings, while the in-form Alex Cunningham and Alex Manion extended their winning runs to seal the win. A walk-over for Matt Davies was an added bonus.
The 2nds, unbeaten in the their last 5 matches, suffered a close 3-2 reverse at Central Fitness, where Andy Chanter and Steve Nemo, who converted a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 success, were the Northern victors.
The 3rds proved too strong for visitors Xaverian 2nds as Mark Halliwell, Sue Rutherford,Graham Lynch and Andy Duncan all powered to victory. Phil Todd, however, failed to make it a clean sweep after surrendering a 2-1 lead.
In Division 5, the 5ths took on the 6ths in an intriguing encounter. Despite Amy Barnes' win over Dave Draper and Mark Griffith overcoming the challenge of Peter Kilshaw, the 6ths struck back when Colin Walker beat veteran Steve Noakes and Eva Kohl won a tight 5-setter with Jason Cunningham. The crucial point in the match proved to be Mike Cunningham's retirement in his tussle with young Alex Berry to give the underdogs the victory.
The 3rd team had no fixture.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT
Thursday, 21st.January, 2010

Northern 1sts returned to winning ways with a 3-2 success against Central Fitness 1sts. Despite a 3-0 defeat for Mick Henderson and a disappointing end to Peter Stanton's fight back in a close five-setter, victories for Heather Tweedle, Alex Manion and Alex Cunningham, who overcame a 2-1 deficit, won the day.
The Division 3 encounter between Northern's 2nd and 3rd teams was always going to be a close affair and so it proved with all the matches bar one going the distance. The 2nds notched up a 5-0 win as Tom Stevenson, Gary Powell, Chips Johnson, Mark Halliwell and Graham Lynch got the better of Ian Powell, Steve Nemo, Sue Rutherford, Andy Duncan and Phil Todd.
The 4ths put on an impressive display to defeat Village Warrington 3-2, inspired by Darren Cochrane, Jason Cunningham and Eva Kohl, but there was a shock for the 5ths, currently third in the league. Despite the vast experience of veterans Andy Beasten, Steve Noakes and Mike Cunningham, the team went down 4-1 to bottom club Formby 1sts. Ian Gazelle was the only player to rise to the occasion.
The 6ths were overwhelmed by top cub David Lloyd 1sts, with the only real resistence coming from Peter Kilshaw who fought back from 2-0 down before faltering in the final set.

NORTHERN CROSBY MEN'S SQUASH REPORT
Thursday, 14th.January, 2010

There was a belated start to the second half of the squash season after last week's fixtures were postponed because of the weather, with Northern 1sts entertaining Chester Rugby. Despite defeating their opponents in the early part of the season, they were disappointedly overwhelmed 5-0. Only John Sumner looked a likely winner but he was forced to retire injured when leading 2-0. The 2nds completed the double over Southport & Birkdale as Matt Davies, Tom Stevenson, Heather Tweedle, Gary Powell and Andy Chanter recorded a 5-0 success.
A close match at Heswall 3rds saw the 4ths lose 3-2. Darren Cochrane and Steve Nemo were the players in form, while the 5ths produced the result of the night by overcoming second-in-the-table South Liverpool 4-1. Although veteran Steve Noakes had to prove his staying power to triumph in a long 5-setter, Jason Cunningham, Andy Beasten and Mike Cunningham all had easier passages.
The 6ths travelled to Village Whiston and emerged winners thanks to Eva Kohl, Chris Bare and Alex Berry. The 3rd team had no fixture.

The 2nds proved too good for Xaverian 2nds as Matt Davies, Tom Stevenson, Andy Chanter, Chips Johnson and Mark Halliwell all starred in the 5-0 rout.
