Billy is first Jackpot Winner. (Oct.2006)
Congratulations to Billy Sheils, a club stalwart and regular supporter of the bar, whose vigilance has been rewarded as the first Jackpot Winner of our Weekly Lottery Draw. Billy correctly predicted the six winning numbers, in the draw held on Saturday 14th October, and takes the £1000 star prize.
Says Phil Sloan, the driving force behind the lottery,
“Great News! the Northern Numbers Draw Jackpot has been WON!!! After many weeks the Numbers Draw has given up it's first 6 number Jackpot. The Jackpot has been standing at £1000 for some time and we're pleased to report that Bill and Anne Sheils, regular number draw players, have won the money. Bill and Anne have been playing the numbers draw since the first week and had at least two tickets every week since the start. Just goes to show perserverance pays off, well done and congratulations to Bill and Anne (who'll no doubt end up spending the winnings!). Ironically after three weeks of no winners at all, we also have a 5 numbers winner in Mr Steve Murphy.
Now we start again with the Jackpot for the coming week standing at £250. The numbers draw had generated much needed funds for our Club so please encourage all friends, family, Club visitors and members alike to have a go. As Bill and Anne have shown it is possible to get that big win. Good Luck to All."

President makes his Cricketing Comeback. (Sep.2006)
Paul Davies hosted his President's Day, later in the year than usual due to a packed calendar of sporting successes earlier in the summer, but no less enjoyable for Paul's guests from all quarters of the club.

A loose delivery from Paul to son Matt endangers wicket keeper Dave Cole, as Paul's wife Sally and daughter Kim reflect with other guests upon the ineptitude on display.

After his achievements with England U19 and Lancashire this season, Steve Mullaney must be pondering how he has come to be playing this stuff, as (below) he launches another one over the head of county colleague Karl Brown and towards the school.
Following the exertions, all retired to a leisurely lunch and plentiful bar. Thanks to Paul, Sally, Matt and Kim for a great day.

More Northern Nights planned for Autumn. (Aug.2006)
With the summer holiday period drawing to a close, our Entertainments Secretary Anne Sheils has some more top events planned for the autumn. Anne has already run some great evenings earlier in the year – just ask the people who have been there and enjoyed them – so expect these to be just as good.

Says Anne “We always seem to have the same faces supporting these functions”. So if you’re not normally one of them, why not get along and give Anne your support, and enjoy a great night out.

“The next function for the club is ‘Marvin Gaye What's Going On’, on Saturday 23rd September. This is a guy and 2 female backing sing Tickets will be £15, which will include a buffet. We will have a late bar till midnight and it would be appreciated if everyone could be seated by 8:30pm.

"We have another function on Saturday 11th November 2006, "FourMation" four guys singing Tamla, Soul and across-the-board music. Tickets will be £15 including buffet, disco, late bar, as usual. Show normally starts 8:45 to 9pm, so everyone seated by 8.30pm.

“I would like to hear of any suggestions for the New Year's Eve Party.”

200 Club approaches the Big One. (Aug.2006)
The annual Grand Draw and 200 Club social event takes place on Friday 8.September, when nine cash prizes will be drawn, including the top prize of £5000. The event is open to all 200 Club members, who should by now have received their complimentary buffet invitation.
Each year a few numbers are vacated, to be replaced by new 200 Club members. Anyone interested in joining the draw from October through to next year's September Grand Draw should get in touch, either direct with Phil Williams or Dave Winsor, or email the website and we'll pass it on.
There is an annual subscription of £96 per number, which includes entry to each monthly draw, plus the Grand Draw social evening.

Cricketers reclaim small ball Trophy. (Jul.2006)
The stalwarts of the House membership spend inordinate hours trying to hit a white spherical object with a stick, guiding the ball into a small hole on an immaculate green surface in the snooker room. The Cricketers take wood in hand, attempting to strike the ball a long distance across a field.
So was born the annual golf fixture between these two of contrasting pedigree. President Paul Davies is pictured presenting the trophy to the Cricketers, who this year reversed a run of success by the House team, who have held the trophy since 2000.
