Tim Lamb returns to Northern. (Jan.2007)
Following our 3rd place in the National Club of the Year competition in May, we will welcome the Honourable Timothy Lamb back to the club on 7th February, to formally present us with a cheque on behalf of CCPR (the Central Council of Physical Recreation), of whom he is the chief executive.
It will be a return to former haunts for Tim, who played first team cricket for Northern during his university years, before going on to a successful cricket career at county level with Middlesex and Northamptonshire. He then moved into cricket administration, becoming Chief Executive of the ECB until 2004.

Andy Davies and Phil Sloan weigh in Around the Waist in 80 days began in earnest in the early hours of the new year, followed by an official weigh-in at the club at 2:50pm on New Year's Day. Andy weighed in at a relatively slender 18st 0.5lbs, while Phil clocked a colossal 19st 6.5lbs.

The pair are looking to jointly lose around 50lbs over the two and a half months, up to the day when a streamlined Phil assumes Presidential responsibility.

OFFICIAL JOINT STARTING WEIGHT – 01 January 2007
37 stones and 7 lbs
Andy Davies and Phil Sloan are undertaking a joint sponsored diet from 01 January 2007 to 21 March 2007 to raise money for the Woodlands Hospice in Liverpool and for youth development at the Northern Club in Crosby. Under a fund raising matching scheme, HSBC will also match the amount raised for the charity.

Please put your name down on the sponsor form and watch out for regular updates.

The pair have both been in heavy training, in preparation for their weighty challenge. Andy has been working hard on the Guinness in the weeks leading up to Christmas, while Phil's preferred method of body-building has been via weight-lifting, carrying copious additional pints of Thwaites to his table at closing time.
At the weigh-in, Phil (left) struggles to maintain balance, while straining forward for a glimpse of the dial. The official adjudicator (right) recovers from its ordeal.

Cricketers on cue for Snooker Final. (Nov.2006)
The snooker singles competition drew to its conclusion on Monday 27th November. The final was keenly contested by two cricketers, young pretender Mike Jones and seasoned veteran Andy Davies.
Andy was straight out of his blocks in the first frame, potting everything in his way, as Mike found it difficult to match the deceptive pace of Andy’s game. The rest of the match was a well-fought affair with Andy emerging the eventual winner against a worthy opponent.

Sean is proving a big Turn-Off (Oct. 2006)
Our energy-saving Project Sean is looking to be a success, with gas consumption down 9% and electricity costs down 32% for the July and August months. As another cost-cutter, water pressure has been reduced. It is now vital to the club’s balance sheet, over the darker, colder winter months, that we all turn off lights and avoid leaving on unnecessary heating.
EVERYONE, please, help where you can.
Our new weekly lottery has also been a success over the summer months. We need everybody, and the hockey and squash sections in particular, to continue the momentum with the sale of tickets. Winning tickets are usually drawn on Saturday or Tuesday evenings, and the names of winners are published via the noticeboard and website.

Book now for New Year's Eve. (Oct.2006)
Details of the club's New Year's Eve party have been announced. The theme will be "Mardi Gras", a very colourful occasion, with masks and garlands all supplied. No specific dress code, and you can choose to wear whatever you prefer, casual, colourful, dinner suit, anything goes! Buffet with hot and cold food will be served at approximately 8:30pm, and also sandwiches around midnight for those of you feeling peckish after a drink or two! There will be a disco, and of course a late bar.

There is a poster in the main lounge, and tickets will be £30 each. Sign up on the ticket request sheet underneath the poster.
