Planning Application. (Nov.2003)
An announcement by Sefton Council appeared in the local press on 27.November 2003, relating to a planning application by Vodafone Ltd. The Club has been approached by Vodafone regarding the possible siting of a telecom mast on our land. Vodafone have submitted the application at their cost, and thus far with no commitment on the part of the Club. The height proposed is 12 meters, incorporating some element of landscaping. The proposed site is behind the small hill, adjacent to the agricultural field and footpath, beyond the cricket pitch furthermost from the clubhouse.
Any members wishing to raise any issues regarding the application are invited to do so, via email, or in writing to the Hon Secretary.

New Channel 4 Series. (email received, Nov.2003)
I found your website on sportslink and I'm writing to you about a brand new series we are making for Channel 4.The series is all about men. We know that a lot of men have partners who think they're stuck in their ways, or wish that they didn't spend quite so much time playing sport or watching it. There are already a lot of programmes aimed at women's lifestyles, but so far no one has really addressed things from the male perspective. We are looking for two friends, who both live with their wives or girlfriends and who are often told that they need to change the way they dress or the way they behave at home. They should be lively out-going people who are sometimes criticised for spending more time out of the house than they do at home.
I am really keen to speak to your players and members as I'm sure that some of them are sometimes accused of not paying enough attention to their appearance or their partner. I'd love to have a chat with you about the programme in more detail. I can be contacted by email: Nancy.Bornat@RDFMedia.com or on my direct line: 0207 013 4591. If there is any way you could fit something onto your website I would be extremely grateful.
I look forward to speaking to you.
Best wishes,
Nancy Bornat

David celebrates the big Six Five. (Nov.2003)
|
Club stalwart David Poole played host,
as he celebrated his birthday and recent retirement in the company of family,
and friends spanning his many years at the club.
Although the big red book failed to arrive, names of yesteryear such as Dowler, Janvier, Cockroft and Davies(JLJ) did.
Gould and Prior from Worsley.
Costigan, Rose, Wall, Tully and Mills from nearer home, and several other familiar faces.
Nice one, Pooley.

Swinger Pat joins the Rat Pack. (Oct.2003)
|
The 'Swing Easy' Dinner and Dance proved a popular sell-out.
A cameo appearance by Northern's own Pat Gill was a highlight,
as she joined Rat Pack crooner Asa Murphy in a memorable duet.
Well done to husband Dave Gill for organising a great Do.

Stan scoops top prize in 200 Club Draw. (Sep.2003)
|
Stan Vian was the lucky winner of the £5000 top prize in the 200 Club September draw.
The event featured a buffet and cabaret, and was again organised by Steve Redfern (above left),
and compered by John Nelson.
Thanks to both, and to Steve for his hard work in running the 200 Club through the year.
The winning number was drawn by the lady president Rose Watts.
Stan, clearly anticipating a possible victory, was absent on the evening.
Anyone managing to track him down ... mine's a pint of Thwaites.
