Goodbye to Gordon. (Oct.2011)
Following the retirement of Gordon Robison our club steward at the end of August, the club organised an informal retirement party for Gordon to mark his 20 years of outstanding service at Northern.
As befits the esteem in which Gordon is held, the event was supported by well over a hundred club members and former bar staff.
Tributes were paid to Gordon by club president Alan Murphy, vice president Graham O'Neill and Peter Robson the Carlsberg-Tetley representative to the club.
A number of retirement gifts were also presented to Gordon, along with a cheque for over £3000 raised by donations from club members. Gordon has accepted life membership of the club, and has retired with wife Sara to nearby Waterloo, so we will hope to see them from time to time. We wish them both a relaxing and happy retirement.

Murph takes to the Willow. (Jul.2011)
Our president Alan Murphy assembled a star-unspangled collection of cricketers,
and a substitute runner in a red dress, to contest the annual President's Day fixture against the cricket chairman's XI.
Cricket has seen some interesting innovations in recent years,
with improvised shots such as the reverse sweep coming to the fore.
Our president opened the innings with son Danny,
and pushed batting technique to new horizons before retiring undefeated,
leading his team to a narrow but fine victory.
In the time-honoured fashion of President's Day, all then adjourned to the lounge for lunch.
Thanks to Alan and Marie, family and grandchildren, for a most enjoyable day.

New faces at the AGM. (Mar.2011)
Re-united after 61 years.
Well, not quite.
Alan Murphy (left) took over as our new president at the club's annual general meeting,
with Graham O'Neill becoming vice president.
The AGM was told how the pair grew up together as neighbours in their early years,
later to meet again as members at the Northern.
Best wishes to both as they embark on their years in office.
