Beavers take on the Parents. (Mar.2009)
The annual end-of-season Beavers match versus the parents took place for a fourth year. With memories of the previous week's dinner still fresh, or in some cases a little vague, it was always going to be a gruelling encounter, and a couple of nasty leg injuries forced an early exit for parents Clarke and Friday.
With her game-plan in disarray, and the Beavers replying through Phil and Guy to wipe out the parents' 2-goal lead, Coach Linda delivered her trump card with a tactical re-jig to her formation. With Dave Williamson directing play from the centre spot, and twin strike-force Steph and Steph adopting a static role either side of the hapless Morris in goal, the youngsters could find no answer to the parents' lack of mobility, succumbing to a late strike by Corrin.
The most ridiculous outfit award was won by the one in the purple top and orange leg-guards. Any offspring traumatised by the event are advised to ring 0800-1111.

Teams celebrate end of successful season. (Mar.2009)
All seven teams were in celebratory mood at the annual end-of-season dinner which followed this year’s AGM.
Ian Douglas began proceedings with his report of the Beavers season. Alice Williamson (above left) was his Player of the Season, while Sean Friday (above right) received the Eric Wright Junior Hockey Award as best U14 player. Perennial hockey supporter, chauffeur and mum Chris Crosbie finally received her 15 seconds of recognition, picking up the U16 best player award on behalf of son Nick, who was away on hockey duty with MTS. Nathan Corrin won the Beeching Junior Leadership Award.
Team of the Year were the Ladies Seconds, who have won 15 and drawn 2 of their 18 fixtures this season. Skipper Rachel Brennan (above) collected the team award from chairman Anthony Symondson.
The team of the year was a close-run contest, with the Beavers team undefeated, winning 17 and drawing just 3 of their matches. The Beavers were each presented with an individual memento to mark their achievements.
Mark Watts has found the net on 57 occasions this season, and relieved the Pfeiffer household of the Forbes Leishman Trophy as leading goalscorer. A good evening got better for Mark, when he was also announced as winner of the hockey fantasy league, but for legal reasons declared himself unable to buy his dad a pint with the proceeds.
The three senior men's teams have all finished just off the promotion places. The Ladies firsts hold a mid-table league position and, barring a freak combination of end-of-season results from the 6 clubs beneath them, have successfully consolidated following their promotion last season. The dependable Kath Thow (below left) was their players’ Player of the Year.
Rob Weir, who is stepping down as Badgers team manager, received a standing ovation in recognition of his many years running the team, as (above right) he collected the Richard Dawson Trophy for services to the section.

Under 13 Girls win Merseyside Tournament. (Feb.2009)
Pictured above are the victorious Northern U13 Girls team, who won the Merseyside U13 Girls Hockey Tournament held at Northern on Sunday 25.January.
The team's success was the culmination of a marathon weekend for one team member in particular. Anneli Reed had taken part in a 12 hour scout hike on the previous day. On the following Monday, she took her medal into school to show her PE teacher, and to mention that they beat local rivals Formby along the way. Her teacher just happens to play for ...

Passing on a big thank you from the parents, to Wendy, for all her efforts in organising and running the tournament.

Access to FixturesLive. (Oct.2008)
For those who access FixturesLive via the Northern Results and Reports section of this website, this setup which has linked in the hockey fixtures, results and tables for the last few seasons has stopped working. It would appear that FixturesLive have altered something at their end that prevents it working.
Update - 10.Nov - the problem is now fixed. The option to use the yellow Results and Reports button should now work ok.
