Northern win Sefton Tournament. (12.Oct 2003).
Northern hosted the Sefton Hockey Junior Clubs Tournament 2003, and provided the victorious Northern A team, pictured below.
The tournament hosted 100 children playing in 8 teams representing Northern Hockey Club, Formby Hockey Club and Southport & Birkdale Hockey Club. The children differed in ages with kids as young as 7 playing.
Competition was extremely tough with every child trying their hardest. There were two sections each with four teams playing each other. The winners of each section played the runners-up of the opposite section. The semi finals saw Formby B defeat Formby C, and Northern A overcome Southport A.
Above, a goal from Northern in the semi final against Southport, while below Will Beeching goes close.
The final between Northern A and Formby B was an exceptional final with skill levels being very high and closely fought. In the second half, Northern A edged ahead scoring a great individual goal from Will Beeching. However, Formby B nearly equalised straight afterwards, but for a tremendous goal-line clearance from one of Northern’s players. Formby despite valiant efforts could not level the game, which made Northern A the winners of the Sefton Hockey Junior Clubs Tournament 2003. All in all it was a fantastic day, bringing some youngsters the experience of playing hockey in a competitive arena for the first time. Also pictured, below, are Northern's C team.
