Hockey Newsletter October 2004

The season has got off to a mixed start. Despite having a very strong squad across all the men’s teams the first have won 1 and lost 1 with the seconds managing defeats in both opening games. These results have been surprising as the hockey played has been good and goal scoring chances being plentiful.

Training

Following the successful pre season training we have hit a problem with the lights at the new venue. If this is not resolved soon we may have to return to Edge Hill or have Sunday training at Northern.

Junior Training

Sunday mornings 10-30 until 12 are proving very popular. Thanks to those who have already helped out. A rota is up so that everyone can support Alex and Ian during the season. If you can’t make it do ensure you have swapped it with someone else.

Northern Men's 3rd Team

The Northern Men’s 3rd Team have been re admitted to the North West Hockey League. From Saturday 9th Oct they will play in Division 9 South. This is promotion from last year’s division 10 North.

As everyone is aware we have had some difficulties in consistently getting the team to away games. Paul and the team will need the support of the whole section so that we can establish the team once more in the league.

All the team captains [1st, 2nds, Badgers and Beavers] have offered to support the team even if this means reducing the size of squads and playing people out of position.

Please be as supportive as possible. It may be necessary for people to play and umpire for the team.

Selection

Tuesday night selection meetings have this year have been difficult. This is because we now have a large group of player who are capable of playing in all the teams. The captains have to make difficult decisions about who plays in which team. Hopefully this strength in depth will help us during the long season. It will mean that everyone get to meet and play with everyone else.
