Men’s Hockey

Dear All,

The new season is well underway and it seems a good time to raise a number of issues.

As many of you will be aware we have struggled to get the third team out this year. This does not seem to be because of an overall lack of players but variable availability. The 3rd team is vitally important for the club as a whole and plays good hockey. All members of the section need to show some flexibility so that this can be maintained. We are trying to make sure that the firsts and seconds only take the minimum number of players to each game. This means people may be asked to play for a specific team rather than being a substitute for their regular team. It would also be helpful if everyone could let Oli know on a Saturday if they are not available. Please do not let him or your teammates down at the last moment.

We have already received a high number of yellow cards and may face point’s deductions at the end of the year. Please try to avoid cards even in the face of provocation. We have also been irritable with some opposition players; this potentially makes it harder to recruit new players. Please try to win friends and influence people at the same time as winning the game.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far and to those who are helping out over the next few months. Having a couple of extra people really makes a big difference and you may even learn something.

This is being run very successfully by Dave Bennett and works really well with larger numbers. It has been good to see people from all 3 teams and more would be welcome. Wednesday night 9-10pm Edge Hill. I know it’s late and there is football on the television but try your best.

The Christmas dinner will be on Saturday 13th December at the club. Last year was great so see your team captains if you want to book a table.

Tim Morris.
