Hockey Junior Coaching Sessions for the 2009-10 season will be as follows : Sundays from 13th September to 13th December. Sundays from 24th January to 28th March. Keen youngsters are seen here, practicing their hockey skills at Northern, under the watchful eye of our qualified coaches. The junior hockey section of the club is thriving, with the help of the older players, who give their time to coach the youngsters at Sunday morning sessions at the club. Introductory sessions run from 10:30am to 11:30am during the winter months, for younger players and primary school children. Youngsters already selected for the Badgers and Beavers team squads will be coached with their teams at a later session running from 11:30am to 12:30pm. Youngsters can progress into the junior teams, where we run mixed under 11 and girls under 13 and 15 teams. Northern also runs Beavers under 14 and Badgers under 16 sides, integrating youngsters into the senior game and playing competitive matches on Saturdays. The senior teams then operate a keen youth policy, having a number of young players in their sides, who will hopefully graduate through the second and third teams to develop into top-flight players of the future. Northern's excellent hockey development programme has been recognised with the award of England Hockey Clubs 1st status, hockey's clubmark equivalent of the kitemark quality standard. We are the first club on Merseyside and only the 15th in the country to achieve this Sport England recognition. Any juniors (aged 6 and upwards) interested in playing hockey are more than welcome to attend these Sunday morning sessions. There is a charge to non-members of £20 for the series of sessions before Christmas, and a further £20 for the series of sessions in the new year.
