End of Season Dinner. (Sep.2010)
|
|
The curtain came down on another season, with the annual dinner following the cricket agm in time-honoured fashion.
Eddie Sturmey was the first winner of a new award donated by Joyce Winter,
fittingly commemorating Dr John Winter being awarded to the scorer of most league runs in the season.
|
|
|
Eddie amassed 680 runs in the season,
while the Simon Bell trophy for best performance went to Chris Tipper for his 123 against New Brighton.
Chris had planned to attend but was a late cry off,
but is recovering well from his accident and is already looking forward to rejoining us for next season.

National hopes go west in the North East. (Aug.2010)
|
Our cup exit at South Northumberland was over-shadowed by the news of Chris Tipper's accident
en route to Worcester after the game.
Everyone's thoughts and best wishes will be with Chris,
and let's hope that Chris makes a fast and full recovery.
|
|
Earlier, a group of 70 players and supporters had travelled by coach to Gosforth,
and had enjoyed a superb day's cricket in our National Knock-out quarter-final.
After being inserted, a second wicket stand of 114 between Chris Tipper (60) and John Wildman (39)
took Northern to a healthy 118-1. The South North slowies then applied the brakes mid-innings, and Northern ended on 210-8 with James Cole unbeaten on 37.
In reply, South North started well but were pegged back to 83-3,
before a stand of 64 between Graham and Cragg put the hosts in control.
The Northern bowlers then applied good pressure, and wickets fell to regain the initiative.
With 20 needed from the final 2 overs, the outcome was in the balance.
However Wightman hit a 4 and a giant 6 in the penultimate over,
and South North sneaked it with four balls and three wickets remaining.
For Northern, Steve Cole took 2-38 and Michael Baer 1-28.

Lancashire arrive for Roses clash. (Aug.2010)
|
A white ball, black sightscreens and coloured uniforms came to Northern as Lancashire and Yorkshire met.
The rumours of a Freddie Flintoff comeback in the one-day 2nd XI Roses match were put on hold,
as the big man was advised against playing on fitness grounds.
Nevertheless the crowd were treated to an excellent innings of 114 by Northern old boy Karl Brown (pictured above),
who skippered Lancashire to a total of 275-9 from their 50 overs,
which proved well beyond the White Rose enemy who were skittled for 179 with Aran Lilley taking 6-30.
