Marathon Man Jordan. (Nov.2009)
Jordan Rogers, and a friend who is being posted to Helmand in July, are doing the Bedford half marathon on 13th.December for Help for Heroes, so wanted to try and raise a few quid from the generous members of our club.

Please seek out the donation sheets on club notice boards, or money can be left behind the bar in an envelope. Otherwise, for more information or to make donations, contact Jordan direct on 07738-766550 or via the online message board.

Lord's not looking kindly upon us. (Oct.2009)
Click to download a higher resolution image of Northern at Lord's The heavens opened on the final leg of our cricketing 150th celebration, washing out our trip to Lord's to play Cross Arrows CC on the Lord's Nursery Ground. An overnight downpour meant that play was called off after an early morning inspection, and a further almighty deluge mid-afternoon (shortly after those pictured, left, had returned to the bar) suggested it had been a very good decision.

But we had a good trip. After morning aperitifs as the party assembled in our hotel directly opposite the ground, we adjourned (above left) to the Lord's Tavern, before embarking on a tour of the Lord's Cricket Ground, including the Long Room, the players' area, the museum (they couldn't find Bootle's aboriginal ball), and the rest of the main pavilion. Then a trip (above right) around the ground, to the newish media centre (below left) overlooking the fabled test match arena. Also snapped (below right) from the Nursery Ground are the media centre and main pavilion beyond.

So that took us to about late-afternoon, when Coley googled a nearby pub that did decent grub and Sammy Smith's at £1.75 a pint. Thereafter, we are still awaiting a reliable and coherent report of subsequent events.

The Cross Arrows Cricket Club was founded in 1880 and its numbers are drawn from MCC's membership, together with MCC employees. Its matches are confined to the months of September and the beginning of October, due to the pressures of the first-class fixture list at Lord's. A number of distinguished members, both past and present, have represented Cross Arrows CC in its matches at Lord's, including Gary Sobers, Asif Din and Tony Dodemaide. The current Club Captain is John Stephenson, MCC's Head of Cricket and a former Essex, Hampshire and England all-rounder.
