Petafi Night. (Apr. 2005)
|
Believe it or not!
It's Shaun Petafi's 21st Birthday on Friday 29th.April at 7pm.
Venue : Comrades Club, Crosby (by St. Mary's Sports Hall).
If you have nothing better to do, under the weather, or just skint - then this is the place to be,
Jimmy will give you a good buffeting.
You may even be Shaun's best mate, which would be an even better excuse.
Bring your partners too.

Volunteering event is outstanding success. (Apr. 2005)
|
Northern members from all sections turned out in force to paint the town (or at least the club) green and white.
The two-day event was organised through England Cricket's Natwest Volunteer programme,
enabling the clubhouse, pavilions and outbuildings to receive a much-needed lick of paint.
|
Thanks to all who turned out, some of whom gave up most or all of their weekend to lend the club a helping hand.
|
CLUB FORCE 2005
As everyone can see this event was a great success with all the Club’s Buildings having been painted.
A great deal of work was also done inside the Tiffin pavilion which has been completely renovated and cleaned up.
My thanks go to EVERYONE who gave up some time last weekend to help, whether it was for 1 hour or 2 days it all helped.
The members involved are not the type who want to see their names up in lights but special thanks must go to a few people.
Hewletts Butchers for an unbelievable deal on Burgers Sausages and Bacon used to sustain the troops,
Dave Finnan, the Caterer, for leaving 2 pans of Curry to eat when we had finished
and to John Leary of Firwood and a Club member,
for sorting out all our paint requirements at short notice after a fruitless visit to B&Q.
We reckon the job will have cost about £500 in total and have saved the Club at least 10 times that amount.
Once again, my thanks go to you all. It shows what can be achieved when everyone pulls together.
Mike Bishop
President

Cricket Celebrity Dinner - Warren Hegg. (Apr. 2005)
|
Lancashire's England international wicketkeeper and past captain Warren Hegg was the speaker
at an excellent sports dinner, enjoyed by an audience of around 60.
Warren, who had played in the Lancs inter-squad match at the club earlier in the day,
gave an entertaining account of the highs, and a few lows, of his colourful career to date.
|
|
|
Warren's talk was followed by an hilarious performance from comedian Tony Roscoe.
|
|
A guest of the evening was legendary Northern batsman John Winter,
whose illustrious career spanned World War Two,
and whose record for the most runs in a season by any Liverpool Competition batsman still stands to this day.
John is pictured above chatting with Warren, and below with young Northern 1st teamers
John Wildman and Aid Fraser.

Lancashire 1st.XI come to town. (Mar. 2005)
|
Lancashire brought their 1st.XI squad to Northern for pre-season matches.
Rain prevented play on day one of their two-day fixture,
and the match was reduced to a 45-over encounter.
Above, Glen Chapple bowls, while in the pavilion Jimmy Anderson's feet check out the new players' viewing area.
Mal Loye (left) launches into a drive, under the watchful eye of new skipper Mark Chilton,
and coach Mike Watkinson with messrs Stanworth and Yates.
|
|
Above Loye, and below Stuart Law, take on their county colleagues.
Warren Hegg (right) attempts to see off young pretender Gareth Cross.
'Keep yer eye on ball, son'.
|
|
|
Friday's 45-over match went ahead as planned.
Dominic Cork treated the spectators to an excellent 104 off 93 deliveries.
His second fifty came off only 20 balls. Leigh's Gareth Cross hit 52.
Along with Cross, four other Liverpool Competition players featured in
the two games,
Cross's Leigh colleagues, Stephan Mullaney and Oliver
Newby, Northern's Karl Brown and Sefton Park's Paul Horton.

NatWest CricketForce volunteering event.
Clubs all over the country - including Northern - are gearing up for NatWest CricketForce 2005
in what the ECB hope will be the biggest volunteering event ever staged,
taking place on the weekend April 2nd and 3rd.
CricketForce is an initiative developed as part of the ECB's Natwest Volunteer programme
- and ECB are encouraging cricket clubs throughout England and Wales to undertake major renovations to their clubhouses and grounds.
See Bish for details, who hopes that the day will save the club £££thousands.

Lancs plan warm-up at Northern. (Mar. 2005)
|
Plans are in hand for Lancashire to bring their 1st.XI to Northern.
They have included matches at Northern in their pre-season preparations,
scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 30th.March to 1st.April.
Lancashire coach Mike Watkinson tells us that the exact format has still to be decided,
but will probably involve formal matches,
between teams captained by new skipper Mark Chilton and vice-captain Stuart Law,
as well as some practice sessions using the square.
This will obviously depend on the weather.
|
|
All going well, this will fit nicely with the Cricket Section pre-season dinner
on Friday 1st.April, featuring former Lancashire captain and England player Warren Hegg.
Please sign up on the list in the bar.

Looks like young Hamish got a bit too excited about the first ever Twenty20 international,

Let's hope the Marshall boys don't take the twinning process too far this summer.

Alex comes of Ale. (Jan. 2005)

Alex Blake, the latest graduate of the Prestwich Academy of Cricket and Sobriety to take a trip down the East Lancs Road to Northern, is to celebrate his coming of ale-buying age.
Alex will be looking for a fast delivery as he sprints in left arm over the bar at his forthcoming 18th Bash at Prestwich on 12th.February.
He has foolishly invited any of his new Northern mates who wish to join him.
