Big knock from pint-sized Steve. (12.Jul 2003)
Young Steve Cole came of age with a superb match-winning performance, steering Northern 4ths to victory with an undefeated 83 chasing Maghull's formidable 228 target.
Congratulations also to Greg Phillips, who hit his maiden century for the 2nds against Huyton. Greg was unbeaten on 121, having put on 221 for the first wicket with Chris Taylor. Sadly though for Greg and Chris, it was Woosey who grabbed the photo opportunity again ...

Northern win regional KO. (29.Jun 2003)
Bowdon players exchange congratulations with Northern, at the end of the regional final of the National Knock Out.
Northern had reached 210, thanks to a stylish 67 from Carl Hey, 43 from David Brown, and some fine strokeplay by John Wildman unbeaten on 60. An excellent team performance in the field ensured that Bowdon fell short of their target, all out on 177. The victory takes Northern into the national last 16, and we now travel to Westhoughton on Sunday 13th July.

Andrew Staunton called up by South Australia. (16.Jun 2003)
For the second year running, our NSW scholarship Aussie is returning home prematurely. Andrew enjoyed a successful season back home with title-winning Sydney University, playing a big role in winning the NSW premiership, before flying out to join Northern. But NSW have decided not to offer Andrew a contract for next year, so South Australia have stepped in for his services. With an unexpected domestic move to SA to sort out before his first professional season, Andrew has understandably opted to return home, and flies back this midweek.

Ladies cricket season gets underway. (15.Jun 2003)

Winter in Oz, anyone?. (7.Apr 2003)
We welcome Jeremy Davies for the 2003 season. Jez is 22, a spin bowler, and plays for Surrey Hills cricket club, in the Eastern Cricket Association, in Australia. Says Jez 'I've played all but seven or eight games in the 2nds at Surrey Hills and actually prefer playing at that level. It's still a challenging standard of cricket but not too serious.' As we have our NSW Aussie Andrew Staunton, Jez is intending to enjoy his cricket in our other teams.
He has mailed us to add 'I just got off the phone to the president of my club here and he said Surrey Hills would be happy to have a player from Northern to come down here and play for us. The club would be able to help them out in the same way you've helped me out with work and accomodation etc.' Anyone fancy it?

Overseas Player for 2003. (14.Mar 2003)
We have received the following notification from NSW about our Aussie player for the coming season.
" The player is Andrew Staunton. Andrew is a right hand fast/medium bowler and right hand middle to lower order batsman with the Sydney University Club in the Sydney Grade Cricket Competition. He plays First Grade and his team have qualified for the Finals Series which commence 22.3.03 and if his team goes is successful in this series they will play in the Grand Final from 4.4.03 to 6.4.03. Andrew would be able to leave here on 9.4.03 and I have Frank Clark (our travel agent) presently looking at bookings for Andrew to fly direct to Manchester as you requested. Not much else to say at this stage other than I think you will be very impressed with Andrew - he is having a very good season here at present with over 50 wickets (fifth highest wicket taker) to date. "
