Jim McNally and Diane Waldron were the winning team, when the gentlemen invited the ladies to join them for their final competition of the summer, the Easton Plate for mixed pairs.

Les extends his trophy collection. (Aug. 2009)
Les Plank continued his trophy-winning form by collecting the Spooner Shield, beating runner-up Peter Milburn in the final.

Les takes president's title. (Aug. 2009)
The President's Main competition was held on the first Saturday of August, followed by a most enjoyable dinner in the Lounge, which was attended by 38 people.
The winner of the day's competition was Les Plank, with Brian Billington the runner up.

Albert completes pairs double. (Jul. 2009)
A change of partner did not prevent Albert Lewis from retaining the Eversley Cup pairs knockout, this year teaming up with Maurice Hemming to win the tournament. The runners up were D Jones and M Llewellyn.

Ladies Update. (Jul. 2009)

Our ladies have had a good season so far. Our Doubles Tournament Final was Sunday July 12th, a sunny day, with some good bowling. Margaret Blagden and Monica Handley were the winners, with Pam Greenhalgh and Esme Roaberts as runners up.

Our Day Out on Saturday July 4th went extremely well, good weather, 31 of us went to Ellesmere Sports Club, Worsley. We had a fun day, good bowling and excellent food.

The President’s Trophy Day will be held on Sunday August 9th,

On Tuesday, August 11th, we are holding our Bowling Bash with the Cricketers, all Cricketers and their families are invited. After bowling, the men are doing a BBQ, so hope for good weather.


Vets Title for Brian. (Jul. 2009)
Congratulations to Brian Billington, who recently won the veterans open competition for the Bootle OAP League.

BCGBA National Finals come to Northern on 25th.July. (Jun. 2009)
The British Crown Green Bowling Association are staging the National Senior Men's Individual Final on Saturday 25th July at the Northern Club. There are 64 finalists who have qualified from all over the country. The Competition is played over both bowling greens, starting at 10am and continuing until approximately 6pm. Price of admission is £7.00 and reserved seats are available at a further £8.00 (personal seats are not allowed). Entrance is free to Northern Club members on production of their Membership Card.

Albert is Captain's Main Man. (Jun. 2009)
The Captain's Main bowls competition resulted in a win for Albert Lewis. Peter Milburn was the runner-up.

Charity Day raises £600. (May. 2009)
The Ladies Bowls section held a Charity Day on Tuesday 19th May organised by the Chairman of the Ladies bowls section Maureen Jackson. Ladies bowling clubs from around Merseyside were invited to take part in the bowls competition besides our own members. The weather started off wet but improved by the afternoon and from the quarterfinals onwards the sun shone.
Everyone enjoyed the day and £600 was raised for this year's chosen charity The Merseyside Society for Deaf People. The cheque was presented to the representatives of the charity by the Vice President of the Northern Club, Bill Sarath.
Throughout the day the bowling was excellent and after an exciting game in the final the winner of the competition was Clare Delooze and runner up Rita Manning.

Winners of the Ball Cup Pairs Competition were Brian Billington and Roy Blagden, who beat runners-up Mike Llewellyn and Peter Milburn.

The first Club Competition of the men's season, the Carlsberg Tetley Pairs, has been won by the partnership of Bill McDermott and Graham Walker, who overcame runners-up Mike Llewellyn and Bill Sarath.
